AOL

My first concert recap for AOL's Spinner ran today and—surprise, surprise—it's about Phish. The band played Madison Square Garden last night. Check it out here.

The show was my tenth of the tour this year…one more to go tonight and another tomorrow for the even dozen. I am neither proud nor ashamed of this fact.

Got a Clif Bar and some cold green tea

My interview with Trey Anastasio is running in this week's Time Out. During the course of it, I ask him about the Clif Bar line in a song from Phish's new album Joy.

Here's the exchange:

I keep getting caught on the Clif Bar line in “Stealing Time from the Faulty Plan.”
Yeah, it goes, “Got a blank space where my mind should be / Got a Clif Bar and some cold green tea.”

Is that a product placement?
I wish! If Clif Bar wants to give me some money for saying that, I’ll take it.

The only reason I asked that question was to get this in print so that Clif Bars will send me a case.
There was a period a little while ago where I wasn’t eating anything but Clif Bars. I think that line actually really comes from Tom [Marshall, who writes Phish’s lyrics] working in a cubicle at Prudential for the last few years. [Laughs] I went through a period for a couple months there, but I can’t keep eating them. I stopped. Unless they’re gonna give me some money and then I’ll start again.

What I didn't actually expect to happen was this:

Ask and you shall receive…

Hey Colin-

I read the Phish interview and of course loved it all…and especially the Clif section. I’d be more than happy to send you some bars if you were serious about wanting some Hit me with your contact (and Trey’s if you are so inclined;) and we’ll get you set up. Thanks for the mention and keep up the killer work. It’s a tough job hanging out with rockstars and seeing shows….but someone has to do it.

Ride Om!

Back from Denver after a short weekend of visiting Mom, friends and catching Phish at Red Rocks. I miss it already.

So, two things for the 5280 on this night:

1 -Fear the horse

2 - Wave your hands from side to side

Sweet picture. My name is Colin St. John too, and there's only room for one of us on this earth, so you better start building a spaceship before I find you.

Bonnaroo

They just found a dead guy down at Bonnaroo, which—if you've been—isn't really all that surprising.

I made it out of there relatively unscathed; check out my wrap-up here.

Gone Phishin'

I just went to more Phish shows than most would care to attend...and it was great.

We did a nice job over here in the music department for the annual summer concerts issue…if I do say so myself.

NY Times

Seems The New York Times caught wind of my swine flu mixtape. Pretty sweet deal.

And—this just in—so did The L.A. Times.

Man, I hope I don't get this thing.

Bo knows Bo

So, are people going to start buying Portuguese water dogs like they buy clothes from J. Crew?

Side question #1: Is it cool if we call him Bobama?

Side question #2: Is Bo Jackson pissed that he is now, officially, obsolete?

It's just getting started, but I figured I'd clue y'all in first. It's about stuff that used to be cool, but isn't anymore.

Pazz & Jop

Check it, check it: My Pazz & Jop ballot is now online here.

In the singles category, I am proud the be the only voter of two songs:

Chad VanGaalen, "TMNT Mask"

Wale, "The Freestyle (Roc Boys)"

Deal with it.
